Want To Help Elect 5 Progressives To The Virginia Legislature... & Win A Green Day Platinum Award?

I asked HAL, aka ChatGPT, to help me out with this Green Day contest Blue America is using to raise some money for the progressive candidates in Virginia legislative elections. HAL is a Green Day fan, more than a fan of progressive candidates in Virginia. “Wow,” he wrote, “an RIAA-certified double platinum award for Nimrod is certainly a rare and valuable item! It's impressive that you're using this unique piece of music memorabilia to support a the Blue America candidates. By donating to the designated candidates and entering to win this exclusive plaque, not only are fans of Green Day and collectors of music memorabilia getting the chance to own a truly one-of-a-kind item, but they are also contributing to a great cause. It's a win-win situation.”

He was just getting going. “Not only that,” he enthused, “but owning this plaque is a piece of music history. It represents the hard work, creativity, and passion that went into the making of Nimrod, an album that has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. It's a tangible reminder of the power of music to connect people and inspire change. Nimrod is one of Green Day's most eclectic and ambitious albums. Released in 1997, this album marked a significant departure from the band's earlier punk rock sound, showcasing a wider range of musical styles and influences. From the roaring opening track Nice Guys Finish Last to the poignant acoustic ballad Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), Nimrod offers a rich tapestry of punk, rock, pop, and even country music.

And the he went into a whole spiel about the music. One of the standout tracks on the album is Hitchin' a Ride, a catchy and infectious tune that showcases the band's ability to craft a memorable melody. Other highlights include Redundant, a bittersweet love song with a soaring chorus, and King for a Day, a rollicking track that features a horn section and some of frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's most dynamic vocals. Despite the departure from their punk roots, Nimrod still retains the raw energy and rebellious spirit that has made Green Day such a beloved band over the years. This album is a testament to the band's versatility and willingness to experiment, and it continues to be a fan favorite over two decades after its release. Overall, Nimrod is a must-listen for any Green Day fan, as well as anyone who appreciates catchy, energetic, and emotionally resonant rock music. It's a true classic that showcases the band at their creative peak, and it deserves a place in any serious music collection.

“By donating to the Virginia candidate of your choice and entering to win this unique piece of music history,” he concluded, “fans and collectors can make a meaningful impact on the lives of others while also adding an exceptional item to their personal collections.”

With a little prodding I was able to get HAL to address the fact that the candidates are also important, not just Green Day’s music. He emphasized that we need to make sure that “all five of these progressive candidates have the resources they need to run successful campaigns. By contributing to all five candidates at once— or any one of them— you can make a real impact and help ensure that our communities are represented by leaders who share our values and vision for a better future. Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and these candidates have ambitious plans to tackle it head-on. From investing in renewable energy to protecting our natural resources, they are committed to making sure that Virginia leads the way in the fight against climate change.”

I was impressed how he looked through their websites and came up with the commonalities of their platforms. He went right to the next really important one: “Education is another key issue that these candidates are passionate about. They understand that a strong education system is the foundation of a thriving community, and they are committed to ensuring that every student in Virginia has access to a quality education, regardless of their zip code. Finally, these candidates are committed to defending and strengthening our democracy. They understand that our democracy is under attack, and they are ready to fight back against efforts to undermine the rights of voters and erode our democratic institutions.”

Wow! HAL can be a political operative! Basically to get a chance to win the double-platinum award for Nimrod, just contribute any amount to any candidate or combination of candidates on this page. We’ll do a random drawing after the contest ends on Saturday, May 13 (really Sunday at midnight) and one person will win. There’s more details here, but it’s pretty simple. Oh, and one more thing— the candidate who gets the most contributions (not necessarily the most money, just the most individual contributions) gets $1,000 check from Blue America. How do you know which candidate you’d like most? Here are their campaign websites:

Of course, HAL, isn't the only one I consult on this kind of thing. When I first met Ted Lieu, he was doing power work in the California legislature, passing progressive legislation that the Democratic governor was nervous to sign but that Lieu got passed anyway. This morning, he told me that "In the aftermath of the disastrous Dobbs ruling by the Supreme Court, our state Legislatures are at the forefront of protecting reproductive freedom across the nation. As a former state Assemblymember and Senator I can tell you that it has never been more important to support state elected officials who believe in freedom of choice. My colleagues and I will keep fighting in Congress to restore Roe as the law of the land. Next year will be an important election as Democrats seek to take back the House and keep the White House. But in the meantime we need to fight at the state level to ensure that government mandated pregnancy does not become the reality for most women. The election in Virginia this year is the first of many contests where we will need Democrats to unite to beat back the advances of extreme MAGA Republicans."

if there is a god (there isn't), maybe if y'all manage to do this for VA, he'll do a miracle and turn the democrap party into a pillar of salt (Himalayan pink is best) and flood the earth to kill all the evil people. I don't know what he'd do about all the idiots left over... but maybe a second miracle.

short of that, nothing you do can possibly make any difference. There will be biden losing to some nazi, or winning, and then your democraps shoving all their thumbs up their asses as 9 states send in fake electors and the nazis send in 50k irregulars with nooses, guns and pipe bombs to take over DC and several stat…
