Judge Noticed "An Underdeveloped Brain"
Tyler Dykes was not sentenced to 5 years in prison because he gave the Hitler salute. He was sentenced because he is a repeat offender, violent domestic terrorist. A college dropout, after a around 4 months, who enlisted in the Marines and was dishonorably discharged for defacing local businesses with racist and Nazi graffiti. His next unpleasant brush with the law was when he was a participant in the 2017 "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville (age 19) when he was arrested for trying to intimidate people— Jews— with a tiki torch in the Nazi march on the University of Virginia campus. He got 6 months in prison for that, part of a plea deal.
And then came the J-6 riots and attempted coup. Dykes traveled up to DC to hear Trump speak and then to participate in the storming of the U.S. Capitol. He was identified through images and videos showing him assaulting police officers and disarming an officer of their riot shield. He was charged with civil disorder and assaulting law enforcement officers. He was recognized a flight risk and denied bond. Evidence presented during the bail hearings included his continued involvement in white nationalist groups on Telegram.
On Friday Federal Judge Beryl Howell sentenced Dykes (AKA- “Nocturnal Wolf”) to 4 years and 9 months. Rebutting his attorneys arguments, the judge said, “It was not impulsive conduct that can be explained by an underdeveloped brain… You don't think using a Sieg heil! salute makes a difference?”
“Prosecutors said that Dykes moved fences to help other members of the crowd get to the Capitol doors, helped push officers back from their posts, gave a Nazi salute, stole a police riot shield and used it to help break into the Capitol,” reported Hank Sanders. They recommended that Dykes, who is from Bluffton, S.C., receive a sentence of five years and three months. Lawyers for Dykes asked for a sentence of two years, arguing that he had acknowledged his wrongdoing when he pleaded guilty in April to the assault charges, that he was only 22 years old at the time of the riot, and that he had enlisted in the Marine Corps to serve his country.” He was also fined $22,000. Prosecutors wrote that “Rather than honor his oath to protect and defend the Constitution, Dykes’s criminal activity on January 6 shows he was instead choosing to violate it.”
Does it surprise you that after Dykes was sentenced he announced that he supports Trump “to be the next president of our country.” Would it surprise you at all if Trump wins— God forbid— and pardons him?
