There’s a crucial February 13 special election everyone in DC is avidly following. It pits former congressman Tom Suozzi (D) against the Nassau County GOP machine’s candidate, Mazi Pilip, for the Long Island (Nassau and a slice of northeast Queens) seat George Santos was expelled from. Santos is backing his old friend Pilip, who is very much like him. If you’d like to contribute to Suozzi’s Get Out The Vote effort, you can do that here. That’s two weeks from yesterday.
However, that isn’t the only important special election on that day. Since John Galloway resigned from the legislature to take a judgeship late last year, the Pennsylvania House Of Representatives has been exactly tied (101 to 101). The Lower Bucks County special election is on the same day as the Suozzi-Pilip election in New York. The 140th House District includes all of Falls Township, part of Middletown Township plus Morrisville and Tullytown.
Pennsbury School Board member and former Falls Township Supervisor Jim Prokopiak (D) is facing off against Candace Cabanas (R). It’s a swing district that leans blue. The state AFL-CIO and Planned Parenthood have endorsed Prokopiak.
Over the course of the last year there were 5 special elections— which cost nearly a million dollars— in the House, as Democrats sought higher office, resigned or died.
