No Matter What You Think Of Kamala, Trump Was The Worst President In History

On Wednesday, Republican Voters Against Trump launched a $3.5M ad campaign in swing states Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan that includes 69 billboards like the ones above and a series of 30 second social media video ads featuring people who voted for Trump before but have since realized what a mistake they made and plan to vote for Kamala in November. In the case of Beth, a Virginia woman who voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020, she seems to have come to her senses because of Trump’s criminal convictions. It’s a simple message that RVAT has carefully focus group-tested: “Trump is not running for the country or democracy. He’s running to keep himself out of jail. He is a criminal and he should be prosecuted for his crimes. Kamala is a prosecutor. She is going to uphold the rule of law.”

There are 4 other ads besides Beth. Ethan lives in Wisconsin and although he’s never voted for a Democrat before, the J-6 insurrection guarantees he will be voting for Kamala this time. Tom (from Michigan) has also never voted for a Democratic candidate for president has decided to vote for Kamala, in his case because Trump “wants to be this big Mafia boss, this dictator” and, unlike Trump “she’s not going to try to destroy the constitution… or turn America into something like Hungary or Russia.” I like this one by Mike from the Philly suburbs who says Trump scares him and that he’s “mentally unfit for the office.”

RVAT’s press release asserted to have selected this content “for its persuasive value in speaking to one of this cycle’s most critical constituencies: undecided conservative-leaning swing voters. By speaking to these voters’ concerns and creating a permission structure for them not to support Trump again, we are helping to rebuild the anti-Trump coalition that delivered victory in the Blue Wall states last cycle. This is RVAT’s largest ad campaign to date, and will build on our previous work speaking to undecided voters in these areas. ‘Donald Trump thought he could coast through this election, but now he’s feeling the pressure from voters who have real concerns about his age, his criminality, and his anti-democratic behavior,’ said Sarah Longwell, Executive Director of Republican Voters Against Trump. ‘Even for those who supported him in the past, these liabilities are real— and they are alarming. We are reminding voters that there is a better choice, and that we can’t gamble with American democracy by returning Trump to the White House.’” 

People like Longwell— and probably most people— are only thinking about one thing: stopping Trump and his fascist MAGA agenda. Bernie is urging people to vote for Kamala as well— but he still has an eye on the future, especially as Kamala's campaign has disowned Medicare-for-All, the Green New Deal, a ban on fracking, free college… and is very purposefully moving towards Republican-lite positions, knowing Democrats will support her no matter what, giving her the room to appeal to mythical centrist voters. Many of the issues she’s distancing herself from, she once supported as a senator and they are very popular but... the establishment advisors she’s apparently listening to are trained to analyze politics in a way that adamantly eschews bold measures and any profound change. Luckily for her, the alternative is unfathomable and voters seem willing to keep their eyes tightly closed about her shortcomings, at least for now.
