More Unfit Than Ever
MSNBC producer Kyle Griffin (Mehdi Hasan’s show) tweeted that Judge Chutkan ruled that Trump will be forbidden from having a phone, copy machine or anything else that could create a copy of the sensitive materials while he's reviewing them. Defense counsel will have to review Trump's notes to make sure he's not copying witness' personal info.” This seems like a harsh and severe— if not draconian— restriction on a former president. I mean, isn’t this the kind of constraint you would put on a terrorist or Mob boss? If you haven’t watched the trailer above, for the Unfit documentary, I would recommend you do so right now.
The film was made by the Duty to Warn mental health professionals who spent years observing Trump and decided it was part of their ethical duty to wear the public of the imminent danger he posed/poses to the country. The doctors concluded that Trump is a “malignant narcissist,” which describes someone with a grandiose self-imagine, an inflated sense of accomplishment and an excessive need for admiration. Does this sound at all like Trump? “He is boastful, hypersensitive to criticism, arrogant, and envious. He is always ready to raise hostility levels, and uses deceit and manipulation. He transgresses social norms, and lacks moral conscience. He is preoccupied with perceived disloyalty, bearing grudges, quick to blame others, and prone to conspiracy theories. He is dehumanizing to people he perceives as weak, capable of taking glee in their misfortune.” That’s the frontrunner for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination. I believe the followup, Untruth is coming soon.
The Shallow State (@OurShallowState), an associated blogger, wrote yesterday that “Trump is many things, but at the top of the list, he's a grifter. A carnival-style conman, peddling rudimentary and unmistakable frauds to a fearful angry following of people who, frankly, disgust him. He feeds them heaping helpings of bullshit, and they ask for bigger spoons… Psychopathologies as aberrant as Trump's are neither controllable nor curable. He cannot pivot, sit still, shut up, or stop. He does not see beyond himself. He has no empathy, shame, or contrition. He's the worst human being ever and now— also the worst criminal defendant ever.”
On Thursday, Brain Karem wrote that Trump's insanity is a clear and present danger to the existence of humanity. “Facing 78 felonies in three different jurisdictions, with a grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia, still waiting to weigh in— and perhaps facing additional federal charges or possible state charges in Michigan, Arizona and elsewhere— Donald Trump has spent the last few days spewing forth an extraordinary level of venom, even for him… Trump is running for president hoping to avoid prison time, while also seeking revenge for his 2020 defeat. He is unquestionably insane… Perhaps he's setting himself up to plead diminished mental capacity after a slew of recent posts on his favorite social media platform that sound like a horrible cry for help. Call it the wailing of the banshees or whatever else you want, but Trump now seems the living embodiment of Edvard Munch's famous 1893 painting in oil tempera, pastel and crayon, The Scream. He is out there with only his Kool-Aid drinkers beside him as he melts down into a puddle of sweat, makeup and a Rodney Dangerfield suit.”
Alas, there are tens of millions Kool-Aid drinkers beside him. The latest non-partisan polling of Republican Primary voters— by Morning Consult— shows that 59% of them say they’ll vote for Trump. Just 16% pick DeSantis, 8% Ramaswamy, 6% Pence and 3% each Haley, Scott and Christie.
[H]e's like an unhinged and crazy mob boss. Maybe we'll see him roaming the streets in his pajamas like Vincent "The Chin" Gigante, the fabled "Oddfather," muttering "Covfefe," "Fake News" and "It was a perfect call" as he urinates on a fire hydrant. That would be some real illegal leaking.
But remember, Gigante's schtick was an act. He got caught. That doesn't bode well for Donnie.
Trump's far-right fanatics refuse to abandon him, mostly because they can't. Their future is tied to him, and as sure as the toilet paper circles the bowl after the flush, so will his supporters. They scream that the indictments are the action of a "banana republic" when actually that's what not indicting him would be.
…Some of them actually claim to believe that Trump is the victim of a "two-tier justice system." They are correct that there are two tiers. But when you've been charged with 78 felony counts in three different jurisdictions, have your own private plane, don't have to get a mugshot or pay bail and don't have to give up your passport— well, guess which tier you're in.
Trump is either genuinely crazy or he's acting like it to try to avoid prison. His supporters are incapable of adapting to that reality.
They are supported by the "culture of lies" orchestrated by Donald Trump, and alluded to in Jack Smith's latest indictment. It's not a crime to tell lies, and he does so often. But it's the actions based on those lies that have caused Trump legal problems and led to these indictments. Not the speech. Not the thoughts.
This brings up the question of whether we human beings are in fact a sentient species.
We have very real concerns, including some of the toughest existential threats humanity has ever faced. Climate change, potential nuclear war, famine and global militarization threaten our survival, but we're stuck talking about this one crazy SOB— apparently we can't solve the other problems until we fix this one.
…Trump represents that ruling class, in the worst possible way. He is a true vulgarian. His mannerisms are crude, his language antagonistic, his thoughts are vindictive and he's always whining and playing the victim card.
That has never changed and never will. Too many among us don't even want it to.
I look again to the words of John F. Kennedy, less than a month before his death, upon receiving an honorary degree from Amherst College. "A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces but also by the men it honors, the men it remembers," he said.
Perhaps the best thing we could all do is forget all about Donald Trump— after he's long gone. The best he can do is to plead insanity.
That might be the best outcome for all of humanity.
But don't count on it. Donald Trump does not care about humanity. He only cares about himself— and now his survival instincts are failing.
One of the Republican presidential candidates, former Texas Congressman Will Hurd, understands Trump a lot better than his former constituents, 50.3% of whom voted for the former White House occupant. Hurd was on PBS’ Firing Line where he noted that “Trump is a liar. Donald Trump is a loser. And Donald Trump is a national security threat to the United States of America. And we need to be honest about that. And if we nominate him, if the GOP nominates him, then we’re giving Joe Biden and Kamala Harris four more years… I was recently in Iowa and spoke at a group that had a lot of Donald Trump supporters, and I had to break the news to them that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election. Some folks were not happy with me being honest, but guess what, it had to be said. If we can’t have these honest debates within the Republican Party, then we’re not going to be able to ensure that this trend that has been happening for the last 20 years, where a Republican has lost the national vote,… that shouldn’t be the case,” he added. “And it’s going to require us to be honest and look at ourselves.”
Yes, he's a sociopath. He's been one since his daddy's seed found his momma's ovum.
But does he fit the definition of insane?
Irrelevant to the question of being unfit. Except... in a democracy, the plurality (not a majority in this shithole under these rules) of voters determines fitness.
In a classical sense, NEITHER biden nor der pumpkinfuhrer is "fit". Neither are most nazis in congress nor a wide swath of democraps. And that's without regard to what they *DO* there.
"It's not a crime to tell lies... But it's the actions based on those lies that have caused Trump legal problems and led to these indictments. Not the speech. Not the thoughts."
So yer sayin "by their *fruits* shall…
