Trump held a MAGA rally in tiny Schnecksville, Pennsylvania outside of Allentown in Lehigh County. It’s not MAGA country. In 2016, when Trump beat Hillary statewide, he lost Leigh County by nearly 5 points. 4 years later, Leigh County gave Biden a nearly 8 point margin of victory. Still, there was a good turnout of MAGAts at the fairgrounds and Trump sold lots of hats, scarves, shirts, blankets, pins, blasphemy-Bibles and other campaign garbage made in China. The news was that he finally endorsed Dave McCormack (who he hates) for Senate. McCormack was no primary opponent this time and didn’t ask for Trump’s endorsement and wasn’t at the rally. McCormack, whose wife has served as Trump’s deputy national security advisor, had begged Trump for his endorsement in 2022. Instead, Trump endorsed the clownish Dr. Oz, who won the nomination by 951 votes, before losing to John Fetterman in the general. Trump was the cause of McCormack’s humiliating defeat, declaring him “not MAGA” and making sure all of his followers knew that McCormack was “the candidate of special interests and globalists and the Washington establishment,” which was true then and is true now.
McCormack is well aware that Señor T’s endorsement is unlikely to help him win the Senate election since MAGAts already hate him and the suburban swing voters he needs hate Trump. But across the country, there’s another election that Trump just endorsed in where he may have doomed a GOP incumbent. Washington’s deep red, rural 4th district is the most politically backward in the state. The PVI is is R+11 and Trump beat Biden there by 17 points, his best performance, by far, in the state. It includes all of Douglas, Okanogan, Grant, Yakima, Benton and Klickitat counties and part of Adams and Franklin. Trump won every county in the district. I hate to say it, but the voters there are mostly drooling morons, whose sad lives are filled with irrational fears and bigotry.
Their congressman is Dan Newhouse, who did exactly one good thing is his career: he voted to impeach Trump after the J-6 insurrection and failed coup. He and David Valadao were the only Republicans who voted to impeach Señor T who won reelection. McCarthy had persuaded Trump not to endorse Valadao’s opponent but Trump endorsed a 3rd-rate MAGAt, Loren Culp against Newhouse. MAGA Mike has more urgent priorities— and either didn’t try or couldn’t convince Trump to lay off Newhouse this time. So… we got this on Friday:
The Douglas County GOP had already endorsed Sessler over Newhouse this year. And so have many MAGA freaks, from Roger Stone and Michael Flynn to the My Pillow Guy and Arizona lunatics Wendy Rogers and Mark Finchem. MAGAts in the district remember that Newhouse called them “hateful and anti-American extremists” after the riot, which he blamed on “the language and misinformation of the President of the United States.” Ex-NASCAR driver and insurrectionist, Jerrod Sessler, was one of several MAGAts to run against Newhouse in 2022 but came in 4th in the state’s jungle primary, behind Newhouse (25.5%), Democrat Doug White (25.2%) and Trump-endorsed Culp (21.5%). Sessler won 12.2% and beat 4 other anti-Newhouse Republicans. Culp blames Sessler for his loss. Together, their votes would have easily beaten Newhouse. Yesterday Culp, filled with venom tweeted this after Sessler said he was honored to get Trump’s endorsement:
If I was a betting man, I’d wager that Sessler will make it into the November runoff, either to face Newhouse in an R v R general election or to face Democrat Doug White again (if he even decides to run).
