We Are The Ones We Have Been Waiting For

-by Carol Wolman
The Chinese word for “crisis” (危機, wēijī) contains characters
representing both “danger” and “opportunity…”
It is apparent that the Trump administration is intent on creating a crisis, both in the United States and around the globe. The hits are coming so fast and furiously that it is hard to get an overview, to see the trajectory.
The “danger” is descent into poverty, fascism, and iron rule by the billionaires, a la Russia, Hungary, North Korea, Nazi Germany, Mussolini’s Italy, England under Henry VIII, France under Louis XVI. There are many other examples throughout history.
Trump’s vision, evidently, is that a small group of mostly white men and a few women will have wealth and power beyond imagination. He, of course, is the supreme ruler, and everyone has to kiss his ring in order to have a role in the new world he is working toward. Many, many individuals, corporations, newspapers, school boards, local governments have already succumbed to his power, whether charismatic or coercive.
America has led the way in establishing and maintaining the rule of We the People. Our Constitution is a sacred document, because it proclaims that We the People are in charge and lays out the mechanisms to sustain Our authority. As Ben Franklin said: “It’s a Republic, if we can keep it.”
Rule by oligarchy has been creeping up ever since the assassination of John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Now it is crashing down upon our heads, between Trump and with his crown of power, and his enforcer Musk and his chainsaw. They are shredding the Constitution every way they can.
The “opportunity” is that We the People will reclaim our power and move toward a better world, a saner world, in which humans care for one another and stay in harmony with nature, so that the children have a safe nest, and all species can thrive.
Protest is rising, as the full significance of what Trump and Musk are doing sinks in. They are deliberately breaking the established order of things so that they can create a new order, in which the billionaires suck the rest of us dry, and force us to live in fear and poverty.
They are deliberately causing uncertainty in order to keep us in a state of confusion and apprehension. Is my job safe? Will my Medicare and Social Security disappear? Will my business survive the tariffs? Will I still have freedom of speech, assembly, worship?
Freedom of the press is already crumbling. Congress and the Supreme Court have been bullied and bribed into cooperation.
Any violence by dissenters, even extremely critical rhetoric, gives this small group of mostly white men, and a few women, an excuse for violent repression. Trump has the county sheriffs and many police departments behind him. He also has an unofficial army of thugs, led by the criminals who assaulted Congress on January 6 th 2021.
He is trying to break the Posse Comitatus Act, which prohibits the Federal Military from dealing with domestic violence, so that the entire might of the Defense Department— Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Special Forces— can be let loose upon protests by We the People.
Therefore, protest must remain nonviolent, and righteous. Gandhi demonstrated this in India, He fought British oppression with his philosophies of non-violent and peaceful resistance. He described Satyagraha as “the relentless pursuit of the truth with the method of non-violent action.”
“These are the times that try men’s souls” is a famous quote from Thomas Paine’s pamphlet The American Crisis, published in December 1776, during a low point in the American Revolution when General George Washington’s army was in crisis.
AI overview

The path of Satyagraha is not easy. It requires unrelenting proclamation of the truth, and remaining nonviolent, no matter how violent the reaction. Dr. Martin Luther King demonstrated how this can work in the United States. He endured beatings, jailing, taunting-in order to end segregation in the United States. Enough people followed him to make this a reality.
Of course, both Gandhi and Dr. King were assassinated, as were the Kennedy brothers who supported Dr. King in the 1960’s. As President and Attorney General, John and Robert Kennedy helped to make Dr. King’s dream come true. It’s very dangerous to lead a nonviolent resistance. It takes great courage, and our souls will be tried.
HOPI PROPHECY
To my fellow swimmers:
here is a river flowing now very fast.
It is so great and swift,
that there are those who will be afraid,
who will try to hold on to the shore,
they are being torn apart and will suffer greatly.
Know that the river has its destination.
The elders say we must let go of the shore,
push off into the middle of the river,
and keep our heads above water.
And I say see who is there with you and celebrate.
At this time in history we are to take nothing personally,
least of all ourselves, for the moment we do,
our spiritual growth and journey come to a halt.
The time of the lone wolf is over.
Gather yourselves.
Banish the word struggle from your attitude and vocabulary.
All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.
For we are the ones we have been waiting for.
“See who is there with us. We the People are many. We are faced with the challenge of not taking ourselves seriously and doing everything in a sacred manner and in celebration. Indeed, our souls will be tried. We are conditioned to accept violence, in our sports, in our video games, in the movies we watch and the news we read. We save our sacred doings for church. A deep understanding of what is needed, a basic change in attitude and approach, are necessary if We the People are to prevail.
Personally, I believe the answer lies in loving our country, our neighbors, and our planet. We must turn to the source of love and wisdom, whether we understand this as an external deity or a voice in the depths of our being.
The future of life on earth depends on the choices we make now.
Deuteronomy 30:19
19 This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live…
Trump’s followers have been deceived. See Thessalonians 2:2- The Man of Lawlessness. Many of them are waking up now. We must welcome them into the warm embrace of We the People who have fought for our sacred document, the US Constitution. Following in the footsteps of Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, we shall overcome.
