Republicans— With These 10 Conservative Democrats Helping Out— Censured Al Green... Let's Not Forget

Writer's picture: Howie KleinHowie Klein

The House voted to censure Al Green (D-TX) for his righteous outburst during Trump’s deranged propaganda speech to Congress Tuesday night. In the hope of helping our readers know for whom to vote— whether in primaries or in general elections— we thought we’d list the 10 Democrats who crossed the aisle to back Trump and MAGA Mike yesterday. The vote was 224 to 198— 10 Dems and all the Republicans.

  • Ami Bera (New Dem-CA)

  • Ed Case (Blue Dog-HI)

  • Jim Costa (Blue Dog-CA)

  • Laura Gillen (New Dem-NY)

  • Jim Himes (New Dem-CT)

  • Chrissy Houlahan (New Dem-CT)

  • Marcy Kaptur (D-OH)

  • Jared Moskowitz (AIPAC-FL)

  • Marie Gluesenkamp Perz (Blue Dog-WA)

  • Tom Suozzi (New Dem-NY)

Aside from Green, fully-owned crypto-puppet Shomari Figures (Dem Dem-AL) voted “present.”

I might also mention that if the worst of the Democratic congressional reactionaries, like Adam Gray (Blue Dog-CA), Jared Golden (Blue Dog-ME) and Josh Gottheimer (Blue Dog-NJ), could voted against this kind of ugly, divisive bullshit, every Democrat certainly could have— and should have. Hakeem Jeffries abysmal leadership was highlighted again yesterday when he and coke-freak Pete Aguilar called into his office some of the most effective— and widely appreciated— Trump protestors, not to congratulate them or learn from them but for some kind of idiotic "come to Jesus" scolding. Rising stars Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) and Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) were two of the Democrats Jeffries whined to about causing a ruckus and taking the spotlight off Trump and putting it— God forbid— on the hapless Democrats. (And no, he didn’t call in the treacherous conservatives who voted to censure Al Green for a scolding.)

Yesterday, after the censure vote, Andrew Solender reported that a crooked MAGAt extremist, Andy Ogles (R-TN) said “he will force votes on kicking dozens of Democratic colleagues off of their committees for chanting and singing on the House floor over the objections” of MAGA Mike. Ogles, an inveterate racist swine, is excited because most of the Democrats who were singing “We Shall Overcome” are Black.

Ogles may be one of the most detestable members of Congress, but Republicans are hoping to elect another repulsive extremist just like him in about 3 weeks, Randy Fine, an AIPAC freak running to replace Mike Waltz in the Florida special election. I’m pretty certain that if Josh Weil beats him, there won’t be any more votes like this being called by MAGA Mike. Fine, who has threatened violence against Democratic women in the House, has been endorsed by Trump and may be in for a big unpleasant surprise on Election Day. If you’d like to help Weil— a Bernie quality independent Democrat— flip this seat… here’s how.

One Wednesday, Jamie Raskin sent an account of what had happened to his Maryland constituents: “Last night, in his protracted joint address to Congress, Donald Trump proved himself to be a world-class liar and a serious danger to our people. The lies were giant and petty and they flowed freely through the night, but one lie jumped out at me. Trump said that combating the rise in pediatric cancer was one of their ‘top priorities.’ I almost fell out of my chair. I wish that statement were true, but my guest last night was Dr. Lauren McGee, a brilliant biologist leading a team at NIH that is making serious headway in fighting juvenile osteosarcoma, a form of childhood bone cancer. Lauren has nothing but superior evaluations and amazing achievements to her name. I saw photos of patients whose lives she saved and changed. But, along with thousands of other federal workers, she got sacked on February 14 as part of the Valentine Day’s Massacre by Elon Musk’s team of juvenile racists and computer hackers. Lauren was a sitting duck for Musk's wrecking ball because she was a probationary employee— probationary not because she had done anything wrong but because she had been promoted for her excellence to head up this critical work.”

Trump called for “law and order,” but after pardoning 1500 insurrectionists from his January 6 mob, including hundreds who violently assaulted cops, he has gone on to fire J6 prosecutors and round up J6 FBI agents simply for doing their jobs, suspend enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and disband anti-kleptocrat and anti-corruption units at the Department of Justice.
Trump said “the days of unelected bureaucrats are over,” but has subordinated the entire government and nation to the bizarre whims of Elon Musk, an unelected bureaucrat who has assumed the powers of a fourth branch of government and is wildly dismantling agencies and departments established by Congress.
Trump said they were fighting “fraud, waste and theft,” but they illegally sacked 18 corruption-fighting Inspectors General, who saved us more than $91 billion in actual fraud, waste and abuse. Meantime, they are extending billions of dollars more in government contracts to a government official, Elon Musk, who is a walking, talking, Chainsaw-wielding conflict of interest.
Trump lovingly called Social Security a program “that our seniors rely on.” But Elon Musk called Social Security “the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time,” and now they’re promoting massive tax cuts for the wealthy Silicon Valley elite paid for with deep budget cuts for the Americans who depend on Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid.
Trump doesn’t just need a fact check, he needs a reality check. And he needs a political counterweight that will shut down all the lies and authoritarianism.
We will fight this right-wing assault on our democracy in the Congress, in the streets, in the courts, in the polling places, in the present and in the future.
