I Wish A Reporter Would Ask Moscow Marge If She Knows What The Sudetenland Was
Earlier today, the House voted overwhelmingly to pass aide for Ukraine (311-112), Israel (366-58) and Taiwan (385-34). Every Democrat voted for Ukraine aid and Taiwan aid. 37 anti-genocide Democrats thumbed their noses at AIPAC and voted no on Israel aid. 19 of them— Mark Takano (CA), Joaquin Castro (TX), Nydia Velázquez (NY), Lloyd Doggett (TX), Pramila Jayapal (WA), Ro Khanna (CA), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Becca Balint (VT), Greg Casar (TX), Jim McGovern (MA), Barbara Lee (CA), Earl Blumenauer (OR), Judy Chu (CA), Hank Johnson (GA), André Carson (IN), Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ), Chuy García (IL), Jonathan Jackson (IL), and Jill Tokuda (HI)— sent this joint statement:
This is a moment of great consequence— the world is watching. Today is, in many ways, Congress’ first official vote where we can weigh in on the direction of this war. If Congress votes to continue to supply offensive military aid, we make ourselves complicit in this tragedy.
Our votes against H.R. 8034 are votes against supplying more offensive weapons that could result in more killings of civilians in Rafah and elsewhere. We believe strongly in Israel’s right to self-defense and have joined colleagues previously in affirming our shared commitment.
All of us support strengthening the Iron Dome and other defense systems and we are committed to a sovereign, safe, and secure future for Israel. To protect that future, we believe the United States must help achieve a ceasefire that allows hostages to be freed, humanitarian aid to be delivered, and peace talks to begin.
Benjamin Netanyahu appears willing to sacrifice the hostages while inflicting extraordinary suffering on the people of Gaza. He is willing to expand this conflict to preserve his power at the expense of Israel’s safety. In recent weeks, reports have indicated that Netanyahu is moving closer to a full-scale invasion of the southern Gaza town of Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians have taken shelter. When faced with the question of whether to provide offensive aid to further this conflict, we believe there is a moral imperative to find another path.
Most Americans do not want our government to write a blank check to further Prime Minister Netanyahu’s war in Gaza. The United States needs to help Israel find a path to win the peace.
Not all progressives saw it the same way— and many are just too cowed by AIPAC to do the right thing. ProgressivePunch rates L.A. Congressman Jimmy Gomez the 28th most progressive member of Congress (by voting record). Or at least they did before he bowed down to AIPAC on Saturday. His general election opponent, anti-genocide Democrat David Kim, ran this ad on social media within hours of Gomez's unfortunately vote Saturday
In any case, that was a very different statement from the one Moscow Marge, the de facto leader of the Putin wing of the House Republicans, made after the Ukraine aid package passed, which 101 Republicans supported and 112 opposed. “Zelensky,” she wrote, “thanks Speaker Mike Johnson (D-Ukraine) for sending $61 BILLION of your hard-earned tax dollars to fuel a foreign war. Johnson once again passed a bill with the help of Democrats while the majority of the Republican majority voted against it. Not only is Mike Johnson a traitor to our conference, he’s a traitor to our country.”
So… will she move to vacate the chair? I can’t see how she doesn’t, unless Trump orders her not to. Will the Democrats vote to save MAGA Mike’s speakership? I believe a number of them said that if he passed Ukraine aid and was targeted for that, they’d prevent the vote from taking place. The House adjourned for a week so nothing is going to happen for at least 10 days, since Moscow Marge didn’t file her motion yet. Gosar and Massie say they plan to ramp up the pressure by having other Putinists, like Eli Crane, announce they’re on board with Marge’s vacate motion. Massie claims that by theme a dozen announce their support for her motion, MAGA Mike will announce his resignation. He says he won’t.
Can you bare to listen to this disgusting Russia asset? Here she is whining on Bannon's podcast with that abrasive, discordant way she speaks.
