The con is on, and it’s disguised as a bad magic trick. Whilst looking at what’s happening in one hand, we’re being asked to not pay attention to what’s going on in the other.
Here’s an example. In this hand is a POTUS tariff threat. in the other hand is: the headline, “China-based Trump memecoin investors made millions while average 'roadkill' investors lost.” (Alternet)
Slight of hand.
In Canada, at the federal level and in Ontario the provincial level, (both now being in election mode), there has been bamboozling magic on display. The electorate with cheers has accepted being given tax rebates or tax holidays by this hand over here.
The other hand, don’t look, is hoping that the electorate doesn’t realize it is being bribed.
Bribed by its own money, should be the headline.
Get it? That other hand is disguising the fact that all these monies are coming out of funds collected from taxes paid by the taxpayer.
The shortfalls in the public purse by paying out or not collecting billions of dollars will, down the road, inevitably result in less monies to pay for schools, hospitals, doctors and other government-paid items.
You can hear already hear those wanting to run for a government seat, shouting on the stump,, “There’s no money. Vote for me to bring back fiscal responsibility.”
Well, to quote some sort of passage from a very wise wise woman, what the politicians won’t admit is that they’re “borrowing from Peter to pay Paul.”
Paul and Peter being the electorate!
Anyway, back to magicians, a profession that I admire. There’s a term for a bad trick. It’s a Wannabe or a Gremlin.
Politicians are performing a Wannabe. The electorate needs to start booing. It needs to demand more for the money it has paid for admission to the show.
Now, as I admire magic, I have a rabbit up my sleeve that needs cooking. How can anything go Gremlin with a trick like that?
