Imagine if you had to say, "I am Paul Gosar's brother." Gosar's siblings have never been political allies of his brand of neo-fascism and have been speaking out about it for years. Yesterday, the Republican Accountability Project released a new ad featuring Gosar's brothers and sister again telling Arizona voters what a dangerous monster their brother is. You should watch it. His constituents certainly won't.
Gosar's district, AZ-04, is the most politically backward and reddest (R+21) in Arizona. It includes some Phoenix exurbs but is basically almost all of western Arizona-- Prescott, Kingman, Colorado City, Jerome-- bordering on Utah, Nevada and California and ends at Yuma, just a few miles from the Mexican border. This past cycle Trump beat Biden there 68.0% to 30.6%, by far, Trump's best performance in the state. When you read about rogue tribes of Mormon extremists who have multiple wives and child brides in closed off rural communities with no paved roads... that's Gosar's district. There are all or parts of 7 counties. Not one is even politically competitive. Most of the voters live in Yavapai (R+32), Mohave (R+51) and Pinal (R+28). Gosar was reelected in November with 69.7%.
He is certainly one of the most far right extremists in Congress-- and he is a relatively good reflection of the voters in his almost 90% white district. (Ironically, Gosar lives in lovely Flagstaff, which is another world entirely from the rural, backward 4th congressional district.)
The point of the new ad is to make sure voters know that Gosar , who hasn't been indicted yet, was one of the instigators of the violent, failed Trump coup on 1/6. His sister Jennifer doesn't beat around the bush. In the ad she says "There is no one member of Congress more responsible for the attack on the Capitol than Congressman Paul Gosar... He should be held accountable for all the lies he told that led to the attack on the Capitol on January 6th."
Gosar was one of 3 members of Congress-- the other two being Lauren Boebert and Mo Brooks-- who should be investigated by the House Ethics Committee for aiding and abetting the insurrectionists. Pramila: "It is critical for the functioning of Congress-- and therefore the functioning of our democracy-- that this investigation is conducted. I urge the House Committee on Ethics and the Office of Congressional Ethics to thoroughly investigate Representatives Boebert, Brooks, and Gosar’s conduct, and refer any appropriate findings to the Department of Justice."
Gosar doesn't do anything for his constituents--other than stoking their bigotry and hatred-- but he is always in the news for speaking at white nationalist rallies and QAnon events. If you haven't done so yet, watch the video.
