Not All Republicans Beat Up Their Wives, But This Ohio Rep Has Been Arrested Twice In 2 Months

I guess this is another GOP mug shot

Republican auctioneer Bob Young was elected to the Ohio House in 2020 to represent the folks in a Summit County swing district that starts at the University of Akron and Akron Fulton Airport and goes south through Barberton, Clinton and New Franklin to the Akron-Canton Airport. He beat Democrat Matt Shaughnessy both times he ran and is due to face him again next year. Young won with 52% in 2020 and 54% in 2022. This year, though, Shaughnessy has something new going for him.

Young has been beating up his wife and the Republican Speaker of the House has been imploring him to resign; he refuses. And then Young was arrested again on Monday.

He’s married to his high school sweetheart Tina and they have 4 children, one of whom saw Young, drunk, smack her around at 1 am and throw her phone in a swimming pool after a fundraising party of their home in July. The Speaker was there for the fundraiser but left before the incident— same with the judge, Todd McKenney, who oversaw the arraignment on two misdemeanor charges in Barberton.

After he beat her up, Tina fled with her children to her brother-in-law’s house a mile away and later that morning Young barged in there, fighting with his brother and breaking a glass door. He was apprehended by the county sheriff’s department, pleaded not guilty and released on a $520— 10% of a $5,000 bond, plus fees. Judge McKenney also banned him from returning to his home and issued a restraining order from having any contact with his wife. Another judge, Edward O’Farrell, who's retired, cancelled the bond and released Young on his own recognizance.

This past Saturday, he attacked again, “recklessly” breaking the restraining order while still awaiting trial on the July case. Now he’s being held in the county jail for violating his wife’s protective order. He has a years-long history of abusing his wife, although no charges were filed previously.

Young’s version is that he “undervalued Christ” when he attacked his wife and brother. There’s also a mistress involved here, possibly another member of the legislature, but who that is exactly is all hush-hush.

A MAGAt who seems to like Trump’s protectionism, Young made an ad to run against Shaughnessy, accusing him of committing domestic violence— a lie— and Shaughnessy is suing him for a million dollars.
