Republicans have always had a thing for inflicting cruelty. I saw that at an early age in the little suburban Republican town I grew up in. What Trumpism, MAGA, conservatism, whatever you want to call it has done is boil republicanism down to a molten concentrated form which rallies the troops and gives them the even nastier more immediate impact that we see every damn day. That vile, fetid concentration of cruelty is a perfect representation of the Republican soul and mind. They're proud of it and they reward each other for it, no one less so than Trump. If only there really was a burning hell pit where they could all be sent. Unfortunately there isn't so we end up having to deal with the hell they always strive to create on Earth.
