Sunday Thoughts: For Republicans, Dark Ages Are Always A Goal
by Noah
The above headline isn't news. It's a reminder and that reminder pertains to this and every election. Call it a no-brainer for a society that has lost its mind.
The ideal church to Republicans is a propagandistic instrument of oppression. It's about putting people in their place as useful fools in the eternal battle for power. They may cynically speak of the body and blood of Christ, but they are a lot more interested in telling half the population what they should and can do with their bodies. Their blood? The ideal Republican church doesn't give a damn. A woman really can bleed out in the parking lot outside a hospital for all any Republican type of mind cares. And it's never been just during the Dark Ages.
And while this is all too true, it is also true that your side only pays lip service to the rights of women (and everyone else). After the courts decided Roe, your side had many opportunities to codify it into law. They even passed ERA but failed miserably to cajole its ratification, granted to be something of a challenge. They codified DADT and DOMA. It was courts and states that gave nonbinaries rights... briefly. Dobbs became a campaign issue, but no effort has been made to codify rights federally. So there is now a patchwork of states which do and do not allow women to have rights. And with the reich, women and nonbinaries (and others) will, federally, have none.
