That last panel of the cartoon carries a ton of irony but it has for 60 years. Yes, the more things change, the more they remain the same, because we put up with it. We grant authority to the worst among us, and too many of them have never felt the pain of a righteous fist in the face.
The last panel is wildly optimistic.
Given what happened tuesday, the last panel should have said "It was up to us/US and voters have failed... again".
Also, and I realize a 50-panel cartoon would leave ADHD americans lost, there are soooo many more pertinent "... failed us" that were left out. Like our current AG. BOTH parties. billionaires. religious "leaders". etc.
Choosing to put blame only on 'them' is typical.
