Tone Deaf In The Extreme

by Noah

WTF WTF WTF! Let me put this as simply as I can: Major League Baseball's Dodger franchise is the team that signed up Jackie Robinson and put him on the field in 1947 to break major league baseball's color barrier, so WTF kind of sicko statement is it when the same team goes to the White House to kiss the reeking orange ass of a president who, in his party's anti-DEI frenzy, made a blatant attempt at trying to erase Jackie Robinson, among other American heroes of color like Harriet Tubbman, Medgar Evers, and the Tuskegee Airmen from our history? I understand that a lot of teams go to the White House to visit a president when they win a championship in their sport but this is a bridge way, way, way too far. In this case, they not only went, they called it an honor and they presented Trump with a number 47 Dodger Jersey. Yeah, I get it, mega millionaires showing they can be bought by the worst among us. Smile for the cameras and lick the boots boys.

The whole thing is a total disgrace. I know some of the players and ownership people are probably Trump fans. If so, shame on them. I can only guess that they approve of today's virulent racism but, by sucking up to the worst president this country has ever known, a traitor and a white supremacist, in fact, the Los Angeles Dodgers are not only endorsing Trump's attacks on the integration of our society, they are kissing the ring of a cretin who incessantly makes a point of childishly and irresponsibly attacking California and wants to withhold disaster relief funds from the Los Angeles area after the horrific fires that so recently destroyed so much and ruined so many lives, in the same town no less. Talk about thumbing your nose at your fans! Several of the players even called visiting Trump an honor! Unfuckingbelievable!!! Oh, and here I will just mention that it also says something when professional athletes bother to give a man who cheats at his own given sport any respect at all.

Incidentally, another of MLB's teams, the Pittsburgh Pirates, in another blatant act of DEI erasure, removed the number of the legendary Roberto Clemente from their right field wall (Clemente was their Hall Of Fame right fielder) and replaced his number with an advertisement for a beer brand. They didn't even warn Clemente's family they were about to do it. The number is back now due to the uproar but we know where the team's uber wealthy ownership stands. Which team is next? That's anybody's guess at this point. Maybe some sports team will be putting statues of Confederate soldiers outside their stadium. Or maybe one of Trump, too, as soon as he requests it. Stay tuned for "Wear A Sheet & A Hood And Get In Free Day."
