Variations on a theme: I know this take on Edward Hopper's famous Boulevard Of Broken Dreams painting has been around a while but I've been saving it for just the right moment in time and I never get tired of it. Are we seeing the end of Trump's dream of total Nazification of America? No one knows for sure. Certainly not those pollsters who care more about increasing the flow of money coming their way by releasing meaningless polls 3 times each day more than being truly, actually informative a week or ten days after a given event.
So, why did I alter the title of Hopper's painting when I chose a title for tonight's post? Is it because Trump's Nazi dream is becoming a nightmare for his sick psyche? Or is it because, with a lot of work and a little luck, the "long national nightmare" that we are suffering may be coming to an end? Both can be true but only if we try hard enough.
And, then we need to learn for a change that the work is never really done and that there is always more work, more room for improvement, and just sitting around doing nothing but moaning solves nothing.
No the long national nightmare is not over. Trump's schtick might be wearing thin (or maybe not), but his party of hate, suppression, oppression, christian nationalism, white nationalism... will exist until YOU make it go away. Trump making everything all about trump might have plateaued, but naziism has not. Even this cycle, had they nom'd someone with actual chops (and some restraint), you'd lose. There is a lot about biden and harris and democraps that they could attack. A well crafted campaign could easily win.
Yeah, learning for a change that the work is never done would be a big help. But your side still has that problem with pleasing their investors. Doing THAT is incompatible with pleasing voters a…
