Or Give Up Entirely
by Noah
A republic, if you can keep it.
So said Ben Franklin. I wonder if he almost said, "If you don't give it away." We do know that he was aware that the republic he was referring to at the time was a slave republic but he, and others thought that at least a start had been made. However, I seriously doubt that he thought we'd still be fighting some of these battles 250 years in the future and that the progress of American ideals would not just be even slower than he hoped but shift into reverse. That's what the 2024 election has wrought. We've let Ben Franklin down. We've let all who fought for the ideal down, and, as a people, we are doing it even more vehemently and emphatically now. Along the way, some of us even fought the kind of people who Franklin feared. My father's generation certainly did. Some fought against us, and the biggest cowards found a way to sit on the sidelines with their arms folded. Don't say "We're better than this" when the majority proved we aren't on the new Day Of Infamy, 11/5/24.
Now, we have given the worst man of all, a psychopathic violence freak, a multiple sex offender, an avowed racist, a homophobe who obsesses about penises and mimics blow jobs with microphones to the cheers of his millions of fans, a man who led an attempt to overthrow the government and is responsible for the deaths and injuries involved, a man who lives to cause pain in others, a nice, big, free house to live in with servants that we pay for with our hard earned money. He doesn't even have to register as a sex offender to live in that neighborhood or any of the others where he's built mansions on his foundation of grifts and fleecing. To those who voted for this monster, be careful what you wished for. What kind of people let themselves be led around by vile, hideously malformed people like Tucker Carlson, "Ted" Cruz, Donald Trump, Nick Fuentes, Steve Bannon, Lindsey Graham, and all the others of their ilk. 70,000,000 of them didn't just piss and crap inside the Capitol Building this time. No, this time they did it on the whole country, everyone of us, even themselves.
All voting is a calculation. You look at a candidate and you make the best guess you can, more often than not, wishing for something better. The more mature and sentient of us know that we don't get everything and that progress is incremental at best due to the plague of compromise. It's a chain is only as good as its weakest link thing. Still, we make the effort and we know that those who bitch the most are the ones who do the least or don't even try at all. Screw them. FDR knew and told us that you have to force the issue. It's D-Day once again and not all of us will see how it turns out.
A fine lament.
The more mature and sentient of us know that we don't get everything and that progress is incremental at best due to the plague of compromise.
Compromise? That only occurs in the service of the money, since the '80s. Anything else that actually gets done is when the nazis (and collaborators) do things. Democraps always find a way to be thwarted as they pretend to try... when they bother to pretend.
FDR knew and told us that you have to force the issue.
Yes. But first someone like FDR who WOULD force the issue must be elected. And a party that would force the issue must be elected. The last Democrat and party who did so was LBJ. …
