A Happy Veterans Day to all of those who have fought Nazis of every kind both abroad and here. The faces of fascism are many. The work to save democracy is ongoing. Never forget. Never let up. Stop being soft.
Originally "Armistice day", it celebrates the Armistice that ended WWI.
On 11-11-1918, in the hours between the signing of the Armistice agreement and the hour (11:00) it took effect, ambitious allied generals, chiefly Pershing, ordered pointless attacks (territorial gains would mean nothing at 11:00) that caused over 10,000 needless casualties. The Brits symbolically retook a town that they'd lost early in the war, at a cost of hundreds of dead and wounded, when they could have just walked in at 11:00.
so... thanks to all who served. but remember the rest too.
