Sunday Thoughts
by Noah
As soon as I send in the weekly Sunday Thoughts post, I almost always have a good idea of what the next one will be but last week I had no idea. I wanted something very fresh, something that would match the lunacy emanating from Washington and I had nothing. I had no idea what to present for Sunday Thoughts this week. Shame on me!!! How could I think for a second that The Diaper Don and his GOP wouldn't come through!! Before I knew it, Monday's inauguration came along and by Tuesday, the entire Republican Party was calling for a bishop to be tarred and feathered! What did she do? Well for one thing, the bishop is a woman! WTFFF! Ah, but even worse, she brought forward the concept of mercy! Goddamn, what's the world coming to! Woke! Woke! Woke! Caring about others! That's so un-republican!
Ever since Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde had the decency and balls to bring up the idea of mercy in last Monday's inauguration prayer service at our National Cathedral (Episcopal denomination), republicans have brought out some of their best batshit crazy; waves and waves of it. We shouldn't be surprised that mercy is an affront to republicans. They do make a point of always seeking to raise the amount of misery in the world. Death? Yeah, to them it would be better, if it's "brown people" we're talking about, but misery? Yeah, they'll always strive for as much as they can inflict on "others." Mercy or misery, I'm struck by the similarity of the two words. Have you thought that maybe the orange embodiment of evil and his entourage went to the service fondly thinking of all the misery that has been caused in God's name for eons and just got blindsided by Bishop Budde's expression of a hope for mercy for the immigrants that Republicans so hate? I've watched the clips of Trump and his family as the Bishop spoke the dreaded M word. The visible discomfort was a thing to behold. I hope the pew they were all sitting in had plastic seat covers. Watching Usha Vance, JD's wife, was interesting. She was being respectful and open, paying attention, not a trace of anger while her husband tried in vain to distract her. I bet she got a talking to after the service.
Here are a few reactions to Bishop Budde's sermon that I've found in the tsunami of Republican hate aimed at her on social media since Inauguration Day. I've left out any names and death threats, and, whenever some sort of translation from the Republicanese might come in handy, I have taken a "Why bother?" approach. I haven't even bothered to add or correct their use or non-use of proper punctuation. It's all what republicans call "Free Speech" so I just let them represent themselves as best they can.

That last one, a woman, included 6 emojis for emphasis but we get the picture. I left them out. Life's too short.
So here we are. A bishop asked a psychopath to have mercy on people that could use a break for once in their lives. She made her request in her God's name. She made her request in the National Cathedral. The psychopath glowered. She knew what the answer would be but being a real leader, she said something that had to be said. He went back to the White House, insulted her, demanded an apology, and signaled his mob of 77 Million fellow psychopaths and sociopaths as to what the next step should be. He won't change and neither will they. In both chambers of Congress, his so-called opponents remain either too silent or ineffectual while Trump's team of psychopaths rallies around him at every chance. What else would you expect from a species winding down to its end times?
