Sigh, another chance at a better world, pissed away into the wind.
I post this knowing that a whole generation of 20-somethings have no idea what the Y2K scare was. Tough shit, kiddos! Read a book sometime. Oh, and the rest of the population? Us 30 to 130 year olds? 90% of us don't remember what it was about and not just because of cognitive decline or anything along that line. If you want to know what it was, go to a damn library, if the local chapter of Moms For Hitler hasn't burned it to the ground and do some looking around. I'm not here to tell you what it was. I don't feel at all like encouraging your laziness. Ask a librarian. They won't bite, although, a lot of times they probably should. Read the cartoon. Are you curious, now? Start out by thinking its closest modern correlation might be that recent "Drones Over Jersey" idiocy, times about 50 or 100, and it was set to happen right as the ball dropped on New Year's Eve; the whole thing blown out of proportion not by social media but by television news and things called newspapers.
Hardly a fallacy, crapper. With a worldwide mega crisis at his disposal Slick Willie might have rallied everyone into an it's a wartime administration and don't change horses in the middle of the stream mode. For good or bad, he had a lot of charm. The thing about alternate reality propositions is that we won't know unless or until they occur.
