Any rational way you look at it, Trump is a monster and his party is a monstrosity. Churchill had a different monster in mind when, on January 20,1940, he made the above statement about catering to crocodiles but his words apply today. The only question that remains is are we as naive, dumb, and in too many cases, as disgusting as too many people were back then. Sadly and obviously, that question amounts to a rhetorical one.
The full quote goes like this:
Each one hopes that if he feeds the crocodile enough, the crocodile will eat him last. All of them hope that the storm will pass before their turn comes to be devoured. But I fear greatly that the storm will not pass. It will rage and it will roar ever more loudly, ever more widely.
Churchill's mixed metaphors aside, many of today's naive people are even so naive that they think many of today's appeasers are simply going along with Trump in the fear that if they do not, their careers at the money trough will be ended. Make no mistake, if the people who are going along with Trump didn't have the same goals, they would not be singing his praises, catering to him, or going along to get along. They would not be making themselves as equally monstrous. Count them as being among Trump's very fine nazis.
Reverend Niemoller had a similar sentiment he shared.
But americans seem genetically incapable of learning... anything... ever.
