Matt Diemer Is Running Against A Guy Who Went On TV And Advocated Turning Gaza Into A Parking Lot

Plus Dennis Kucinich 2.0-- "not our parents’ Dennis Kucinich"

There are 4 counties that make up Ohio’s 7th district— part of Holmes and Cuyahoga, where the majority of residents live, and all of Medina and Wayne counties. Trump won the district in 2020 and two years later, when the seat was open, it was won by a former Trump roadie— and scion of a wealthy Cleveland family— Max Miller. The PVI is R+7. Miller who self-funded over a million dollars into the campaign, outspent Democrat Matt Diemer $2,907,928 to $260,743, beat him 168,002 (55.4%) to 135,485 (44.6%). Diemer took Cuyahoga County, but not by enough to withstand the red turnout in the rest of the district.

Diemer, a progressive who backed Bernie both times he ran, is campaigning on Medicare for All and on ameliorating the environmental and crisis, fixing campaign finance, getting money out of politics, getting rid of Citizens United, enacting term limits on all branches, and supporting labor. What especially interested me about his race, wasn’t just that he’s up against a Trump stooge like Miller but a curveball— Dennis Kucinich is also in the race, running as an independent. My immediate impression was that Diemer and Kucinich would split whatever there is of the non-MAGA vote and send Miller back to Congress for another term. And, indeed. That may be what happens. But Diemer’s analysis of the race is very different from my quick superficial look. I asked him to share his perspective, which he did below. If you would like to help him win this race and replace Miller, you can contribute here and follow him on Facebook and Twitter.

“There are,” from Matt’s perspective, three candidates running for Congress in Ohio’s 7th District: myself, Democrat, Trump sycophant Max Miller, and Trump Sympathizer Dennis Kucinich. You read that right— this is not our parents’ Dennis Kucinich.”

Over the past eight years, Dennis has morphed into a MAGA adherent. Right from the start, he applauded Trump’s “American Carnage” speech as “GREAT!” He supported the lie that “Trump is under attack by the deep state” on Fox News. He blames President Biden for Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine, parrots Putin’s Ukraine conspiracies, and campaigns for NATO’s elimination. He served as campaign manager for anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign. He attended CPAC and did a friendly interview with Trump-pardoned loyalist Steve Bannon. And he advocated for Congress to shut down the government “as leverage to shut down the border” and “cut the debt.”
Unfortunately, our current Congressman— Max Miller— is no better. Instead of pushing his party to move on a bipartisan border deal, Miller is trading barbs with Matt Gaetz on X. Instead of protecting IVF and respecting the majority of our district that voted to secure reproductive freedom, Miller celebrated the fall of Roe v. Wade. Instead of committing to an honest and thorough budget process, Miller blindly follows his party’s dysfunctional, last-minute “governing.” And instead of working with the Biden administration to negotiate peace in the Middle East, Miller suggested that Gaza be “eviscerated” and “turned into a parking lot.”

That's way more than they give most freshmen

Our country has real problems, and we need serious public servants capable of delivering bipartisan solutions. Miller and Kucinich are incapable of meeting that need. They are cut from the same chaotic MAGA cloth.
That is why I am in this race— to Make Congress Work Again.
Our democracy is at a crossroads. We can either continue down the path of division and discord, or we can choose a new direction— one where Congress works for the people, and where integrity and transparency are the cornerstones of our governance. I am here to fight for the latter, to Make Congress Work Again for every American.

I should also mention that Kucinich’s campaign manager is convicted election-fraud felon Rhonda Rohrabacher, the wife of Kremlin-agent Dana Rohrabacher. Not bad enough? Here’s Max Miller blithely advocating genocide on Fox News (sitting with fellow genocidal maniac Brian Mast of Florida), for which AIPAC pays him well.
