John Avlon, The Worst Democrat Who Ran For Congress Last Year, Is Plotting Another Run Now

Too many of last year’s worst Democratic congressional candidates— not just losers, but deserved losers— have already told their supporters that they’re planning on running again, including Blue Dogs Rebecca Cooke (WI-03) and Rudy Salas (CA-22), and, perhaps worst of the lot, John Avlon (NY-01). I was thinking about Avlon the other day when I saw a poll of prominent Democratic figures’ approval and noticed that the very last slot was taken by Rahm Emanuel, Avlon’s favorite Democrat, tied with Avlon’s favorite Republicans, Paul Ryan, Scott Walker and Chris Christie. Former long-time Giuliani speech-writer and vicious anti-union fanatic, Avlon was a co-founder of No Labels, along with grifters Nancy Jacobson and Joe Lieberman. His dream is to cut “entitlements,” which is what Republicans like Avlon call Social Security and Medicare.
Last cycle, Avlon spent $5,147,672 to LaLota’s $3,462,062, not counting another $4 million from PACs, primarily anti-progressive Democratic billionaire Reid Hoffman’s and the Murdoch family’s shady Welcome PAC. In fact, he was the number one recipient of Welcome PAC expenditures. Even with all that money, LaLota beat him 226,285 (55.2%) to 183,540 (44.8%). He’s genocide-friendly enough to have the heavy backing on AIPAC strategist/DMFI owner Mark Melman.

He and his family live in Manhattan but turned their summer getaway in tony Sag Harbor into a full-time residence when he decided to run for Congress. The establishment media— especially the NY Times— made a real effort to hide Avlon’s disgraceful record from Suffolk County voters. The Times, though, did report him saying that “You’re going to see younger folks more fired up.” They were, but not to vote for him. And this cycle, his primary opponent is a 24 year old New Deal Democrat, Lukas Ventouras. You can contribute to Ventouras’ campaign here.
