Is Mike Sacks The Guy To End Mike Lawler's Political Career— Or Is He Too Handsome For Politics?

And Too Idealistic, Passionate And Intense?

Republican Mike Lawler has been talking a lot about running for governor of New York instead of for reelection in his Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Duchess county congressional district. He’s managed to win NY-17 against consecutive atrocious opponents— first Sean Patrick Maloney and then the weird and deranged version of Mondaire Jones— even though it has a D+1 PVI and even though Kamala beat Trump there that same day. If he does decide to stay and run, he’s likely to face a stronger candidate than either Maloney or Jones.

Yesterday, former journalist Mike Sacks jumped into the race, joining county legislator Beth Davidson, nonprofit executive Jessica Reinmann and former national security council official Cait Conley. Sacks emphasized pretty much what everyone says about Lawler: “Mike Lawler is pretending to be moderate up here while playing MAGA in DC.” and one thing is sure; Sacks knows how to stick it to Trump.

The 42 year old Sacks, a Croton-on-Hudson resident and Rage Against the Machine fan, was an Emmy-winning political reporter and legal analyst at Fox 5 New York TV station for four years. Thiss morning I still trying to find something about where he stands on policy, something carefully avoided on his website beyond stuff like “He’s running to realign our politics to the people— not the billionaires. He knows it’s time for the Democratic Party to be bold, stand for something— and back it up.” I just spent an hour on the phone with him. Count me impressed. That subtitle above came from the chat. The guy isn’t just brilliant and well-informed; I feel certain he’d make Congress a much better-functioning operation and more likely to be working in the interest of working families. It was an off-the-record chat and I don’t want to betray any confidences but let me say that DWT readers will feel comfortable supporting him... and hopefully on-the-record discussions will follow. Meantime, I suggest you watch his very powerful and very high-energy launch video:

Notice how he signaled that he's Jewish and raising his sons in Jewish tradition? That's important in one of the country's districts with the most Jews— over 100,000— and the most Hasids. But after talking with him I understood how important that is in his life as well. He's going to be a great representative for the Jewish communities— and for everyone else, other maybe than billionaires, who live in his district.
