Last night a Member of Congress took some time out of partying in Chicago to write us an interesting story about Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), who they considered a friend and who passed away two days ago. This particular member is very friendly in general and gets along with everyone and told me on the phone the only Member they served with who they didn’t like was Ron DeSantis. So liking Pascrell didn’t really mean that much, but they said they genuinely did like him. This is what they wrote for us:
“Bill Pascrell was a lovely, wonderful person, even though he was angry, all the time. Bill was angry in the daytime. He was angry at night. He was angry when it was sunny. He was angry when it rained. He was very angry when it snowed, and his feet got wet through the holes in his shoes. He was angry at whoever was on his left. He was angry at whoever was on his right. He was angry winter, spring, summer and fall. But it was a righteous anger, the anger of a liberal with the sense that life is not fair. The sense that there always is someone who deserves howling at, even the Moon, if it steps out of line. Everyone loved Bill, because... you’d better.
“When Bill Pascrell was 81, AOC was elected, and he felt like she was a kindred spirit, full of righteous anger. So he asked to join the Squad, this 81-year-old white male. And somehow, the response was conveyed to him: no. No, thank you. Not interested.
“And it just made Bill that much angrier. In a good way, of course.
“Bill Pascrell, R.I.P. Rest in the peace that you never felt, but you certainly deserved, for your righteousness.”
