Yesterday a friend suggested that Republicans might be electorally vulnerable next year because the White House immediately— like within hours of Trump’s swearing in— deleted its online Spanish-language page. The White House also shut down the Twitter profile for @LaCasaBlanca/ Maintaining communication with the Latino community doesn’t seem to be a priority.
Funny because in 2024 Trump achieved a record share of the Latino vote for a Republican candidate. According to various exit polls, he secured between 37% and 46% of the Latino vote nationwide, either being a significant increase from previous elections. Some surveys show that he won over half of Latino male voters. This shift in voting patterns was particularly evident in Florida and Texas. In Florida, Trump won 58% of the Latino vote, including a majority in Miami-Dade County, which had not voted Republican since 1988. In Texas, he secured 55% of the Latino vote and flipped several majority-Latino counties along the border that had been Democratic strongholds for decades. Trumpanzee
I think they have more to worry about than the Spanish-language White House announcements. But what do I know? There was also a notable shift in voting patterns among Muslim Americans. According to an exit poll by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Green Party candidate Jill Stein received 53.2% of the Muslim vote, Señor T secured 21.4%, and Kamala got just 20.3%. In Michigan, where Trump flipped the state from blue to red:

This represents a significant change from previous elections, where Muslim voters predominantly supported Democratic candidates. For instance, in 2020, 78% of Muslim voters supported Biden, while 19% voted for Trump. Did they buy into Trump’s surrogates’ lies that voting for Trump (or Stein) would stop the Israeli genocide against Palestinians? Almost immediately, Muslim leaders realized they had been had as Trump rolled out AIPAC-backed, pro-genocide candidates for key positions. And it’s only getting worse… much worse.
Yesterday, Stephanie Lai reported that Trump had freed up the incredibly murderous 2,000-pound bombs Biden had put a halt to in May.
Trump’s decision reflects his intention to “provide Israel with the resources it says it needs to end the conflict.” That’s “end” as in wiping out the Palestinian population (as in, genocide). Last March Trump had publicly urged Netanyahu “to finish up your war. You have to finish it up, you got to get it done.” If that sounds ambiguous— as Michigan Muslims persuaded themselves it was— the decision to resume shipping 2,000 pound bombs clears that up pretty well for anyone paying any attention, even Muslim Jill Stein voters.
Last night, CNN reported that Trump wants to "clean out" Gaza, meaning moving a million people to other countries. After a conversation with the king of Jordan, he said “You’re talking about a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing. I don’t know, something has to happen, but it’s literally a demolition site right now. Almost everything’s demolished and people are dying there, so I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations and build housing in a different location where I think they could maybe live in peace for a change.” That's called “ethnic cleansing” and it's illegal.
So… whether you’re a Latino who helped Trump flip Arizona, Pennsylvania or Nevada upset about the lack of Spanish language online presence, or a Muslim confused about Trump enabling more slaughter of your co-religionists in Palestine, a different electoral strategy might be called for, starting with defeating AIPAC allies in Democratic primaries. AIPAC’s top shill in Michigan is— by far— Haley Stevens. They’ve given her over $944,000. They should recruit a candidate to run against her ASAP and then support that candidate to the hilt. Her district (MI-11) includes urbanized central Oakland County, north of Detroit, with towns like Pontiac, Troy, Farmington Hills, Novi, Royal Oak and Birmingham. The PVI is D+7 and defeating Stevens would send a message that would reverberate across Congress.
