There Are Already Several Film Scripts Circulating In Hollywood, But For Now...
CBS News just released a slick, snazzy George Santos documentary, focussing on his lies more than his crimes. But they did lay the foundation for the public to understand the criminal prosecution that will be coming down the road in the near future. It’s risky doing a film on Santos because every day the story changes as new revelations are uncovered. Just since CBS released their documentary a couple of days ago, half a dozen new pieces they would have included have come to the fore. Like his public “You don’t belong here” spat with Mitt Romney at the State of the Union on Tuesday night.
Like his Newsmax interview in which he admitted he made up the story about going to college(s) to impress Nassau County Republicans. “I would have never gotten the nomination from the Nassau County GOP if I had not concluded college. That was really the main driver, because of the way of the nature of their politics over there. It's just plain and simple, right. So I made that bad decision. To say I deceived, and there was a campaign of deceit and deception, is just not fair. That's just the political spin that the Nassau County GOP wants to create on this narrative. As you know, New York politics, it's pretty simple. The party bosses run the narrative and everyone follow suit and this is what's going on at the moment… Here's the reality. I'm human and I've made mistakes. I've made peace with those mistakes, and I've come clean on those mistakes… “having somebody like me come and represent other people who are just like me— simple-minded folks who come from absolutely nothing and have a voice in Congress.”
Like a formal resolution of expulsion that was just proposed by Robert Garcia (D-CA), Ted Lieu (D-CA), David Cicilline (D-RI), Ritchie Torres (D-NY), Dan Goldman (D-NY), Becca Balint (D-VT) and Eric Sorensen (D-IL), 5 of whom are, like Santos, gay and the other 2 representing districts with large LGBTQ populations. Why no Republicans? Good question. Fellow Long Island Republican Nick LaLota has, like all the New York freshmen, called for Santos to resign. On Wednesday he told CNN that Santos “does not deserve to be in Congress… He's all about the drama. And he's fallen far below the standard that we all should hold ourselves to. He’s a sociopath. He looks for that attention. Even the negative attention drives him. It’s become an embarrassment and a distraction to the Republicans in the House. And every time I have to come to something like this and talk about George Santos, I can’t talk about what Republicans ought to be doing instead.”
Like another stolen checkbook scandal— not the one in Brazil, where the authorities would like to re-arrest him— but in Pennsylvania’s Amish country, where his former attorney said “I should have never got involved. He should have went to jail. And I wish nothing but bad things for him.”
Like his 2024 campaign. Huh? Yes, he’s running again… or at least asking for campaign contributions and, believe it or not, getting some. Enough (over $5,000) so that the FEC sent him a letter ordering him to officially declare that he’s running for reelection in 2024— to “either disavow these activities by notifying the Commission in writing that you are not a candidate, or redesignate your principal campaign committee by filing a Statement of Candidacy.” He has a month to reply. And in that month, the George Santos story is sure to get bigger and bigger— and the embarrassment to congressional Republicans will continue to also grow as he comes to represent their party to the voting public.
