You think Fetterman (D-PA) is bad? He is, but Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) has the worst voting record of any Democrat in the Senate. She’s the new Kyrsten Sinema, the new Joe Manchin. She was a terrible member of the House, just as Sinema was so, of course, Chuck Schumer recruited her to run for the Senate— just as he had done with Sinema. Unlike Sinema, though, Slotkin comes from family wealth. Her grandfather, Hugo Slotkin ran a meat processing company and sold Ball Park Franks to Sara Lee, providing the Slotkin family with substantial wealth and allowing Elissa to attend prestigious schools and to pursue a career in public service without any financial constraints, working first for the CIA and then for the Bush regime.
She ran for Congress in 2018, ousting Republican incumbent Mike Bishop by outspending him $7,401,141 to 3,374,608, much of it from corporate PACs. Since getting into Congress she has always positioned herself on the right fringe of the New Dems and has always aligned herself with corporate agendas and hawkish foreign policy interests, including extreme (genocidal) Zionism. She’s the very embodiment of the crumbling of the Democratic Party brand. In other words, she's a Chuck Schumer kind of Democrat.
Straight off their massive Denver rally (34,000 people) yesterday, AOC & Bernie went to Tucson where, originally 3,000 attendees were projected to show. 23,620 people came instead, making it the largest political rally in Arizona history. "Something is happening here but you don't know what it is, do you, Ms. Slotkin?” If she was giving away free Ball Park Franks, she might be able to attract 100 rally goers. Maybe. She did attract a few constituents to her own town hall in Flint last week though— most not happy with her. She had another conservative Democrat with her, freshman Kristen McDonald Rivet, already the 193rd worst Democrats in the House out of 213. She has quicly earned a “D” score.
When their constituents asked them what they are doing to push back against Trump and Musk, Slotkin launched into an ugly, defensive denunciation of AOC and Bernie instead. Because isn’t that always what corrupt, corporate Democrats do?
“My job is to be more than just an activist. It is to answer the call when there’s an immigration raid and we need to figure out where our people are,” Slotkin said. “All of those things require me to be more than just an AOC.”
The senator noted that she also serves Trump voters of Michigan— a battleground state that went to Trump in 2024— and that she is working to respond to the needs of all residents who are impacted by the administration’s executive orders.
“I can’t do what she does because we live in a purple state, and I’m a pragmatist,” she said, according to CNN. Her response was also met with applause.
Slotkin, who gave the Democratic response to Trump’s address to Congress earlier this month, said that “yelling” at the Trump administration will only get them so far.
Selecting Slotkin to give the official Dem response to Trump's collection of rants was an own goal. Allowing her to give her Ode to St. Ron The Forgetful was a 2d own goal.
At a time when SS and labor are both under unprecedented assault, a "Dem" response hailing a president who opposed SS and busted the only union that endorsed him in 1980 was self-defeating.
Slotkin says she's a pragmatist but what she is is an eager capitulator and a collaborator with Nazis. That's putting it kindly.
She clearly has BAD CHARACTER. When the SS mess hits the fan - which seems inevitable - people will look to Bernie and AOC and others like Chris Murphy as leaders. They are people WITH GOOD CHARACTER who actually care about our country and working Americans, which most of us are. The response to Trump/Musk must be powerful and equivalent in volume to the hell they are bringing to this country. Reaching across the aisle and being temperate will do nothing. Yelling is required! Screaming would be even better.
